What is an implant?
Strictly speaking, an implant is an artificial object that is implanted in the human body. Those used for dental treatment are called "dental implants."
Treatment with dental implants, teeth are replaced by inserting artificial roots where the teeth have been lost. In the past, bridges and dentures were commonly used as treatments for tooth loss, but in recent years more and more patients have requested implant treatment.
Many people ask: "What is the difference between an implant and a denture?" A denture is a treatment that is performed while the root remains and an implant is a treatment that is performed when root extraction is necessary.
The choice of treatment should be determined carefully. It is advisable to listen carefully to the dentist's explanation and ask all the necessary questions.
Currently, titanium or titanium alloy is primarily used as an implant material because it is strong enough to resist occlusal forces, has high biocompatibility and adheres to bone. In order to promote the connection between the implant and the bone, implants with several modified implant surfaces are often used.
The part that will be buried in the bone is called an implant, and the part between the implant and the denture is called a pillar. Generally, the abutment is fixed to the implant body with a screw.
Implants are placed in the bone and this does not increase the load on the remaining healthy teeth. It is known that the chin bones are stimulated in the same way as a natural tooth so that the bone deforms less.
Teeth can be lost due to tooth decay (tooth decay), periodontal disease (alveolar pyorrhea) or trauma. Some humans may not have teeth. Implant treatment is a method of embedding an implant in the jaw bone at a site without such teeth and attaching a denture to the implant. Implant treatment is a treatment that can be applied from the loss of a tooth to the loss of all teeth.
If you lose your teeth you may experience bite problems and difficulty speaking. As a solution to this problem, treatment with a removable prosthesis, dental bridges or implants are viable.
A denture is attached to the abutment, but the dentures can be attached directly to the implant. To prevent the denture from detaching, it can be joined using cement, attached to the abutment or to the implant with the screw. It is impossible for patients to remove dentures by themselves when using them with cement or screws.
By placing a special device in the implant body on the internal surface of the denture, it stabilizes and at the same time, the patient himself can remove the denture. Such a method of stabilizing a removable prosthesis using an implant is called an overdenture.
In recent years, implant treatment technology has advanced and dental treatment has been established as an effective and natural treatment for tooth loss. Implant treatment is recommended for those who value the remaining teeth and wish to leave more teeth in the future.
